About Personal Training & Exercise Physiology
Our personal trainers are exercise physiologists and have completed at least four years of university, specialising in human movement. They are qualified to assess, design and implement exercise programs for people with chronic diseases, musculosketal, neuromuscular and cardiopulmonary issues, athletes as well as the general population. At Vitalelife, we specialise in chronic disease prevention and management as well as musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Chronic diseases include diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis and obesity. Musculoskeletal injuries include hip replacements, knee reconstructions, shoulder injuries, etc.
Exercise physiologists differ from personal trainers in that they have the qualifications to work with people sustaining injuries and suffering different illnesses rather than just the ‘healthy’ population. Exercise physiologists also differ from physiotherapists in that they do not diagnose these injuries or illnesses. Exercise physiologists usually work in conjunction with physiotherapists, often following on after rehabilitation.
So why train with an exercise physiologist? TO REACH YOUR GOALS! The benefits include:
- weight loss
- gain in lean muscle mass and bone mineral density
- increased strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, endurance and power
- reduced fatigue and stress
- improved self esteem and confidence
- better control of blood glucose
- improved sports performance
- increased quality of life
- reduced risk of chronic diseases
- stronger immune system
- improved sleep
At Vitalelife our exercise physiologists provide initial and review assessments, group classes and individual sessions. Assessments are undertaken during your first session to determine baseline measures as well as your strengths and weaknesses. The assessment can then be performed every 3-6 months to review progress. The physical measures of the assessment include:
- Weight
- Height
- Blood pressure
- Bioelectrical impedance analysis (fat mass, fat free mass and hydration)
- Sit up test
- Push up test
- Balance test
- Flexibility test
- Aerobic endurance test
Individual exercise programs are then developed based on these results as well as your goals, injuries or illnesses and likes and dislikes for particular exercises. The exercise program can then be carried out in either a group class or an individual session.
The group classes are run most mornings and afternoons. At each group class there is a maximum of six people to share your work out with. One of our instructors will direct the class, however, each client will have their own exercise program. This option is great for those who enjoy social interaction or have a competitive edge. Individual sessions can also be booked. These sessions are ideal for people who require extra motivation or benefit from special care and attention.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
